Built by Sir Walter Raleigh in 1594 and home of the Digby family since 1617. See magnificent staterooms and nationally important collections of art, furniture & porcelain. View a Capability Brown exhibition and Sir Walter Raleigh’s kitchen in the Castle cellars.

Explore acres of gardens surrounding a 50 acre lake with spectacular views, colourful herbaceous borders, champion trees and sweeping vistas.

Enjoy light lunches, Sherborne Castle wine and afternoon teas in the Tea Room and browse the gift shop selling local and estate made produce. Coach groups can enjoy many benefits including group discounts, free admission for drivers and a Tea Room food and drink voucher.

Opening Times


Gardens: 1 April to 13 November, daily.

Castle: Tuesdays to Thursdays and weekends, daily in the summer months; weekends only in September.

Historic Houses members visit for free. There is no option for Historic Houses members to book on our website, you just need to scan your membership cards with the staff at the ticket box on the day of your visit.

Please note that ticket holders and Historic Houses members may not re-enter the grounds on the same day with the same ticket. Only season-ticket holders may enter multiple times on the same day with their pass.

Please also note that dogs are welcome in the Gardens, but not permitted in the castle (except guide or assistance dogs).

Group Visits

Groups of 15+ receive a discount, private views available by appointment.
