Immerse yourself in 700 years of Welsh history with a visit to Picton Castle. This 14th century castle has a rich past that reflects the turbulent times its’ occupants have lived through. From military action during medieval times, to political and social change in the 18th & 19th centuries, this unique castle has survived it all. Remodelled internally during the Georgian period, Picton Castle effortlessly combines ancient origins with sumptuously appointed rooms, along with a fine collection of art, antiques, rare books and musical instruments.
Surrounded by 50 acres of tranquil gardens, Picton Castle is an RHS Partner Garden. The gardens include a walled garden, a national plant collection, a physic garden and ancient woodland. The gentle climate of west Wales nurtures our collection of rare ferns, tree ferns, exotic plants and flowers. You can meander the paths and lawns, enjoying the abundance of wildlife and views over rolling parkland.
A day at Picton is to explore the fascinating history of this most unusual Welsh castle and garden. After enjoying our historical exhibitions and toy and lawn mower museums, why not relax over lunch in our locally famous restaurant, or snap up an unusual plant or pre-loved book in the second handbook shop?
Open all year. Dogs on leads are welcome in the gardens (assistance dogs only in the castle).

Her Majesty The Queen and Prince Philip visited the Castle for lunch in 2014. Picton's Head Gardener recalls anextraordinary feeling of seeing such a familiar face in real life. He assumed she would be seven foot tall - she’s not! On her last visit, in the 1960's, the Queen liked the curtains in our White and Gold Drawing Room so much, similar ones were commissioned for the Palace of Holyrood.
