Burton Constable Hall is a magnificent Elizabethan country house set within sweeping Capability Brown parkland, offering visitors a rich experience of history, architecture and landscape.
Step inside and explore over 30 beautifully preserved rooms, each telling its own story. Highlights include the Chinese Room and the extraordinary Cabinet of Curiosities, a fascinating collection of rare and unusual artefacts assembled by William Constable. Reflecting the spirit of the Enlightenment, it remains one of the most significant surviving collections of its kind in any English country house. Throughout the Hall, admire exquisite Chippendale furniture, showcasing the best of 18th-century craftsmanship, elegance and design.
Beyond the Hall, scenic walking trails wind through tranquil lakes, ancient grasslands and open countryside rich in wildlife. A must-see outdoor highlight is the awe-inspiring whale skeleton, referenced in Moby Dick, which adds a truly unique touch to any visit.

Burton Constable Parkland, Stables Kitchen & Gift Shop
Open daily from 1st January to 24th December 2026. Hours are 10am to 5pm (4pm during British Winter Time).
Burton Constable Hall
Open Tuesday to Sunday, 11am to 4pm (last admission at 3pm) from 28th March to 1st November 2026. The Hall is closed Mondays, except on Bank Holidays.
Burton Constable Hall at Christmas
Open daily from 21st November to 20th December 2026, 11am to 4pm (last admission at 3pm).

Pre-booked groups of 20 or more are welcome throughout the year. Options include:

Educational Visits
Tudor Experience – Led sessions lasting 2 hours, available on specific bookable dates. Sessions run either 10am–12pm or 12.30pm–2.30pm. A full day can include an additional 90-minute Parkland Tour.
Parkland Tour (add-on) – A 90-minute session available as an add-on to the Tudor Experience. Content varies seasonally, including farm animals, owl droppings, and insects.

Historic Houses members enjoy free entry during normal open days and Christmas opening. Members can book tickets in advance or obtain them on arrival, and we will ask to see a valid membership card on entry.

Potted History Tour:
A whistle-stop tour of selected ground floor rooms offering an introduction to the history and development of Burton Constable Hall and its residents, followed by self-guided, free-flow access to the Hall. Available for groups of 10 or more, maximum 32 people.
Life Below Stairs Tour:
Discover the hidden Servants’ Quarters. Explore areas not normally open to the public and learn more about the people who lived and worked here, followed by self-guided, free-flow access to the Hall. Please note: this tour includes a number of steep, narrow stairs. Available for groups of 10 or more, maximum 32 people.

Getting here
Hull, East Yorkshire, HU11 4LN
Burton Constable is situated in Holderness in East Yorkshire, 10 miles north-east of Hull and 15 miles east of Beverley.
The route to the Hall is clearly marked by Historic Houses signs. From Beverley (15 miles), take the A1035 Bridlington Road, turn right at White Cross roundabout, then follow the A165 towards Hull (10 miles). From Hull (10 miles), follow the A1033 towards Hedon, turn left at Saltend roundabout, then follow signs to Preston and Sproatley.
By train – our nearest railway station is Hull Paragon Interchange. From here, Burton Constable is a 25-minute taxi journey.
By bus – our nearest bus stop is located on Balk Lane, Sproatley. East Yorkshire Motor Services route 277 departs regularly from Stand 34 at Hull Paragon Interchange. From the bus stop, Burton Constable is approximately a 2-mile walk.
By bike – Burton Constable is located just a few miles from Route 65 of the Trans Pennine Trail, straight out of Hull city centre. It is a flat, scenic route that is ideal for families.
