Set high on a hill, this great castle commands the local Sussex landscape with magnificent views across the South Downs and the River Arun.

From its 11th-century Norman Keep to the grandeur of its State Rooms with their stunning art and the glorious gardens, Arundel Castle will appeal to a wide range of visitors.

The castle is set within over 40 acres of stunning grounds in the South Downs area with a backdrop of soaring towers.

Gardens and grounds free to members. Closed Mondays except bank holidays and during August. Free entry not valid on event days or in April.

Only the gardens are free to members; a full castle and gardens ticket must be purchased to enter the castle. Upgrades from garden to castle & garden tickets are available (on days when Historic Houses entry is valid).

Exploring the castle’s interior takes you on a journey from its earliest foundations in 1067, through a royal visit by Queen Victoria, past paintings by Van Dyck, Gainsborough and Canaletto to the wonderful private chapel and the grandeur of the Barons’ Hall.

Open from April to October annually (Tuesdays to Sundays), you can choose to visit the castle, the gardens, or both. And if you’re a Historic Houses member, you can enjoy free entry to explore the gardens from May to October.
