Nestled in an idyllic part of the Scottish Borders, Thirlestane Castle is a magnificent 16th century castle set in a meadow landscape.

The family seat of the Duke of Lauderdale, it is one of the oldest and finest castles in Scotland and still remains home to the Maitland family today.

Come and see the breathtaking 17th-century Dunsterfield plasterwork ceilings, Maitland family treasures and one of the largest collections of family portraits in Scotland.

The Toy Museum “School Room” will open for its first full year in 2022, featuring an impressive collection of Georgian, Edwardian and Victorian toys.

All guests will be invited to enjoy a complimentary cup of tea and a treat with their guide once the tour is complete. Exclusive, private guided tours can be booked year-round.
