Built in 1605-1610 by Sir Arthur Ingram as a Hunting Lodge in the Royal Forest of Galtres for King James I. Although we have owned the house only since 2000, it is close to where in 1405 a forebear, Archbishop Scrope of York, loyal to the deposed king Richard II, was treacherously captured by forces working for the usurper King Henry IV. The original Jacobean house has been extended to incorporate outbuildings including a granary and cart sheds. It has a massive brick central chimney and a splendid carved oak staircase. The recently extended garages house a 1969 Morris Minor, a 1965 Jaguar and a 1995 Aston Martin DB7 as well as a more sensible modern car!
