Built in 1720 Stock Gaylard is a Georgian House overlooking an ancient fallow deer park.
The estate is approximately 1800 acres with around 300 acres of predominantly oak woodland. A 14th-century dovecote can be found in the garden.
We have an ethos of conservation and preservation and to help to preserve our country estate we offer Yurt holidays.
The house is open to the public in April, June and September and we welcome pre-booked groups at other times.
We offer a conducted tour of principle rooms of the house and up the stone passage to the old kitchen.
You are free to enter the church and walk around the garden at you leisure.

Glamping and Accommodation
Stock Gaylard provides four secluded glamping sites surrounded by nature and wildlife, as well as a chalet stay on the Dorset Jurassic Coast. These accommodations offer a peaceful and grounding experience, perfect for relaxation and enjoying the countryside.
The Green Man Pub
The Green Man pub, located in Kings Stag, Dorset, is a historic establishment offering homemade, local, and fresh food along with a selection of drinks including local ales and ciders. It features cozy fires and a sunny beer garden, making it suitable for all seasons.
House Opening Days
The Stock Gaylard house is open for private tours on specific dates in 2026:
- 25th April – 4th May
- 13th – 21st June
- 22nd – 30th September
During these dates, tours of the house are conducted at 2:15pm, 3:15pm, and 4:15pm. The church and garden are open for exploration from 2:00pm to 5:00pm. Admission prices are £10 for adults, free for children (accompanied by parents), and free for Historic Houses members. Dogs are welcome but not allowed inside the house. Booking is recommended.
The Dorset Mud Run
This annual event takes place every May and features a 6km run through the estate, including a historic deer park, oak woodland, ponds, and streams. The course is filled with fun and challenging obstacles and plenty of mud.
The Oak Fair
The Oak Fair is a celebration of countryside, woodcraft, and conservation, featuring over 200 exhibitors, demonstrations, and shows. The 2025 Oak Fair will be held on Saturday and Sunday, 23rd and 24th August. Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a lead and are not permitted in the children’s area.
Concerts at St Barnabas Church
Concerts are held during the summer months at St Barnabas Church, benefiting various charities and local causes. The church also holds regular monthly services, usually on the fourth Sunday of the month.

Approximately half way between Sherborne and Sturminster Newton, on the A3030 opposite turning to Kingstag B3143 Turn down drive between two stone pillars at the Lodge.
You can take the train to Sherborne and a taxi for about 15 mins, taxis wait at the station.
