Built in 1720 Stock Gaylard is a Georgian House overlooking an ancient fallow deer park.
The estate is approximately 1800 acres with around 300 acres of predominantly oak woodland. A 14th-century dovecote can be found in the garden.
We have an ethos of conservation and preservation and to help to preserve our country estate we offer Yurt holidays.
The house is open to the public in April, June and September and we welcome pre-booked groups at other times.
We offer a conducted tour of principle rooms of the house and up the stone passage to the old kitchen.
You are free to enter the church and walk around the garden at you leisure.
You are most likely to be shown around the house by Mr or Mrs Langmead.

House Opening Days
The Stock Gaylard house is open for private tours on specific dates in 2026:
- 25th April – 4th May
- 13th – 21st June
- 22nd – 30th September
Tour times are at 2:15pm, 3:15pm, and 4:15pm. The Church and Garden are open for roaming from 2:00pm to 5:00pm. Admission prices are £10 for adults, and children are free but must be accompanied by parents. Members of Historic Houses have free entry. Dogs are welcome but not allowed inside the house. Booking is recommended via email or phone, and walk-ins may need to wait for the next available tour.
The Oak Fair
The Oak Fair is a celebration of countryside, woodcraft, and conservation, featuring over 200 exhibitors and various demonstrations. The 2025 Oak Fair will take place on Saturday and Sunday, 23rd and 24th August. Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a lead and are not permitted in the Children’s area.
The Dorset Mud Run
This annual event is a 6km run through the Stock Gaylard estate, held every year in May. Participants can enjoy the estate’s natural beauty while tackling fun and challenging obstacles.
Concerts at St Barnabas Church
Concerts are held during the summer months at St Barnabas Church, supporting various charities and local causes. Specific dates and times are announced closer to the events.
St Barnabas Parish Church
The church holds regular monthly services, usually on the 4th Sunday of the month. It is also a venue for concerts and has a rich history dating back to the 12th or 13th century.

Approximately half way between Sherborne and Sturminster Newton, on the A3030 opposite turning to Kingstag B3143 Turn down drive between two stone pillars at the Lodge.
You can take the train to Sherborne and a taxi for about 15 mins, taxis wait at the station.
