Falconhurst was built in 1852 by the owner’s great, great grandfather, John Chetwynd Talbot. John was a younger son of Earl Talbot and a highly successful barrister working for the Prince of Wales and the Railway Companies. He built Falconhurst, Holy Trinity Church and many of the pretty cottages in Markbeech Village. The house was designed by David Brandon and built of local Wealden sandstone. The house suffered badly from damp and fungal problems. During the early 1960s the main part of the house was dismantled and re-modelled by the owner’s parents.

Sculpture at Falconhurst

The Falconhurst Estate will host a debut sculpture exhibition celebrating the medium of stone. The exhibition will run from Sunday, 30th June 2024 to Saturday, 27th July 2024. Opening hours are 10am to 4pm from Monday to Friday, and 11am to 4pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Please note that the exhibition will be closed on 6th July and 13th July for private events.

The exhibition will feature works by renowned sculptors such as Régis Chaperon, Luke Dickinson, Jason Mulligan, Ana Ruiz Agüí, Guy Stevens, Mark Stonestreet, Anthony Turner, and Dominic Welch. The sculptures will be displayed in the gardens of Falconhurst, which have been carefully maintained by the Talbot family since 1850.

Tickets can be purchased online. Parking is available in The Paddock car park, located past the Farm Shop. Additional tickets and catalogues are available for purchase at the garden entrance or in the Farm Shop. Please note that dogs are not permitted in the gardens during the exhibition.

Visitors are advised to supervise young children as the sculptures are large and made of stone, presenting potential risks.
