Burton Court

Manor house with medieval, Regency, Victorian and Edwardian architecture, at the heart of the Black and White Village Trail. Exhibitions include costumes, militaria, natural history and ship models. ‘Hugely enjoyable’ (Simon Jenkins).

The Simpson family have been conducting guided tours around their home since the 1960s. The newest addition to the tour these days is the large archaeological dig. This has provided considerable interest, as it is believed to be the remains of a Norman Castle inside the grounds. The discoveries on the mound have reshaped the house tours as the finds tie in in with the various occupants that have lived at Burton Court over the centuries. They now amount to the largest medieval pottery find in Herefordshire.
