Combermere Abbey celebrates the arrival of autumn with last Garden Open Day

News from our houses Things to see and do

Following the success of the previous openings, on Tuesday 16th September, Combermere Abbey will celebrate the arrival of autumn with their last Garden Open Day of the year.

Open to the public from 10am to 3pm, tickets are available online. Meet our Gardening A Team, on hand to answer questions and offer autumn gardening tips.  A stall selling plants, fresh-pressed apple juice from the Maze and other produce will offer additional temptations.

Displaying the arrival of the autumn colour palette, visitors will enjoy the an opportunity to explore around 10 acres of the C12th estate’s gardens, including the beautiful 6-acre Victorian Walled Gardens and Glasshouse, The Pleasure Garden with its rare trees and Pempe’s Pavilion and The Garden Wood, leading down to the lake, with enchanting views over the water and countryside beyond.

The magnificently restored Glasshouse, designed by Messenger in 1903, sits within the Abbey’s fruit tree maze.  The only one of its kind in the world and designed by the late Randoll Coate, it is an espaliered labyrinth of over 25 varieties of apple and pear trees.  The Pavilion in the middle-walled garden offers a wonderful place to enjoy the light refreshments, whilst taking in the sensory pleasures of the garden.

Light refreshments and free parking including an EV charger on site.  Please note: Dogs and picnics are not permitted.

Tickets are priced at £8.50 and pre-booking is required.
