Country house dating from 1650 with some cellars from c. 1350 and many original features; 1720 library, Victorian additions, and outbuildings. The site has been in the ownership of the original family for over 900 years.

When Nathaniel Hawthorn visited the house he was impressed by the perfection of the lawns, and other features, but complained that the library, which was locked and barred, as the family were not in residence at the time, (having moved to Guernsey to educate their children), was probably being eaten away by bookworms. In fact he was quite wrong, as it survived this period intact whereas other parts of the building suffered.
