History of the Estate
Mannington Estate is one of Norfolk’s hidden gems, set in the heart of the countryside. The moated manor, originally built around 1460 for William Lumnor, retains its medieval appearance with crenellations, gothic windows, and a distinctive flint façade. Two turrets stand proudly on the south side of the hall, adding to its historic charm.
The estate is surrounded by ancient woodlands, lakes, and rivers, creating varied habitats for wildlife and a tranquil, picturesque setting. People have lived on the site for thousands of years, contributing to the estate’s rich heritage through buildings and landscaping crafted from local materials.
In the 18th and 19th centuries, the estate was extended and remodelled, blending medieval features with Victorian interpretations of a gentleman’s country house. Today, Mannington continues to preserve its historic character while offering visitors a peaceful and inspiring landscape to explore.
