Coughton Court stands in 25 acres of grounds containing some of the most beautiful gardens in the country.
The name Coughton (pronounced “Coat-un”) suggests a settlement or farm known for the hunting of woodcock or game birds.
The recusant Throckmorton family moved to Coughton Court in 1409 and have lived there ever since. Therefore, as well as interesting architectural features, the house has 600 years of family portraits and furniture. More recently the award-winning gardens have been revitalised to include rose gardens, herbaceous borders, a bog garden, orchards with naturalised bulbs as well as formal gardens, a lake, two churches and a river walk.
