Hire Bolton Castle

As if untouched by the 21st century, Bolton Castle is a superb film and photo shoot location. Just two hours from London by train to Northallerton, this Medieval castle offers five floors of rooms, including a dungeon and a suite of rooms where Mary Queen of Scots was purportedly held. These rooms can be offered unfurnished with easy access to electrical points with rooms available for dressing and make up nearby. With views across the Wensleydale valley, our gardens include a maze and vineyard, and are also available for filming.

We are used to closing Bolton Castle to the public and do so regularly for private functions. Recent filming includes Game of Thrones and Channel 5’s Anne Boleyn – scheduled for broadcast 2021 – and a variety of fashion shoots. The interior of the Castle is simply decorated and provides a perfect backdrop for staging and dressing. We can help source props and costumes, provide transport and in-house catering. Parking can be arranged close to the Castle for ease of access and the local community offers high quality accommodation if required. Our minimum booking is one day (or 24 hours) up to a maximum of our closed period which is usually November to February.

Bolton Castle is part of the Bolton Estate, which includes heather moorland, ancient woodland and the River Ure. St Oswald’s Church is included within the Estate. Bolton Hall, also located within the Estate, is the family seat of the Orde-Powlett family. For opportunities across the Estate and at Bolton Castle, please call Jacqueline Naylor for more information on either info@boltoncastle.co.uk or 01969 623981
