Found in the very heart of Angus in Scotland, Glamis Castle has been the ancestral seat to the Earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne since 1372. Once the inspiration for William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, Glamis is renowned for its rich history and famous visitors, from Mary, Queen of Scots to James V. Glamis Castle was the childhood home of HM Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother. Her younger daughter, HRH Princess Margaret, was born here and was also frequent visitor during her childhood. Throughout our open season expert guides will lead visitors on their tours. Glamis Castle is currently closed for the winter season and will reopen on 20th March 2026. The castle, gardens, and grounds will be open daily from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with the last tour starting at 4:30 PM. The open season runs from 20th March to 31st October 2026.
During the open season, visitors can enjoy guided tours of the castle, access to the gardens and grounds, and various seasonal exhibitions. Ticket options include:
- Castle Tour: £19.50 for adults, £17.00 for seniors and students, £11.00 for children (5-16 years), and £65.00 for a family (2 adults and up to 3 children).
- Gardens & Grounds: £9.50 for adults, £6.00 for children (5-16 years), and £30.00 for a family during the open season. Reduced prices apply during the winter season.
Special events are scheduled for 2026, including:
- 31st January: Burns Supper.
- 14th, 15th, 21st, and 22nd February: Snowdrop Festival.
- 28th February: Curry at the Castle.
- 8th March: Ladies’ Floral Afternoon Tea.
- 15th March: Mother’s Day celebrations.
Accessibility information includes wheelchair access to the Kitchen Restaurant and Coach House exhibition, and a disabled restroom in the Pavilion Gift Shop. The castle tour involves stairs and uneven surfaces.
Visitors are encouraged to book tickets in advance, and Friends of Glamis membership offers unlimited access during the open season for £100 per year.
