New winter light trail brings fifteen nights of illuminated magic to East Yorkshire this December

News from our houses Things to see and do

As the nights draw in, Burton Constable Hall & Parkland is gearing up to host Winterlight: The Tudor Glow, a major new outdoor festive attraction opening to visitors from 3rd to 23rd December 2026.

Created as a dedicated after-dark experience for Hull and East Yorkshire, the trail offers local families, couples, and groups a brand-new way to celebrate the festive season close to home.

Spanning a 645-metre outdoor route through the estate’s historic parkland, Winterlight blends dramatic architectural lighting with bespoke light installations and projections inspired by the vibrant golds, crimsons, scarlets, and royal purples of the Elizabethan era.

What Visitors Can Expect:

  • A 645-Metre Outdoor Trail: A self-guided walking route through illuminated woodland and glowing parkland paths.
  • Tudor-Inspired Light Art: Custom sculptures, light displays, and visual projections reflecting the history and craftsmanship of the Tudor age.
  • Illuminated Architecture: High-impact lighting highlighting the historic exterior of Grade I listed Burton Constable Hall.
  • Seasonal Refreshments: Hot drinks, mulled wine, and festive bites available along the trail from a festive horsebox, alongside seasonal hot food at the Stables Kitchen.
  • Picture-Perfect Settings: Dedicated photo opportunities against lit tree canopies and illuminated historical landmarks.

Alasdair Hutson, Chief Executive of the Burton Constable Foundation, said:

“Christmas is all about spending time with family and friends and making special memories together. We wanted to give Hull and East Yorkshire a magnificent festive light trail close to home. Whether it’s a family outing with the kids or an evening walk with friends, coming together under the winter sky with a hot drink and seeing Burton Constable transformed by light is going to be a brilliant new festive tradition.”
