At Rose Castle, we are committed to making visits as welcoming and accessible as possible for all our guests. While the Castle is a historic building with original features, we have made significant provisions to enhance accessibility. Some towers, staircases with original features are not accessible.
A lift provides access to the second floor, which includes three bedrooms; including one accessible bedroom, The Chapel, the Lumley Lounge, and the beautiful State Drawing Room.
On the ground floor, accessible spaces include a disabled WC, the Boost Kitchen, Library, Hall and State Dining Room.
The accessible bedroom (bedroom number 2) also has an adjoining single room for a carer/family member. With a walk in wet room the bedroom is large and spacious for wheelchairs or walking aids.
The gardens, orchard, moat, and tranquil woodland can be explored via mostly level grass paths, though some areas may be slightly uneven. Staff are happy to provide guidance needed. Pettinger’s Garden can be accessed step-free directly from the castle which has picturesque countryside views.
The large turning circle outside the front of the castle can be used for dropping off and is step free access into the hall of Rose Castle.
We have dedicated disabled parking located in the car park.
Guests are encouraged to contact us in advance at [email protected] or 01228 642980 so we can ensure your visit is as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
Staying overnight at Rose Castle is an experience of quiet luxury and opulent interiors. Each of our beautifully restored bedrooms is individually designed, combining elegant period features with all the comforts of modern living. From sumptuous beds dressed in crisp linens to soft lighting and thoughtful touches, every detail has been chosen to create a sense of calm and indulgence. Rose Castle has 13 double ensuite bedrooms and 2 single bedrooms with private bathrooms, all of which are individually styled. One of the double bedrooms is suitable for accessibility needs with a large wet room.
Our bathrooms are a particular delight, spacious, serene and finished to the highest standard. Guests can unwind in deep roll-top baths or refresh under generous walk-in showers, surrounded by characterful stonework and soothing views of the Castle grounds.
Guests can enjoy a locally sourced breakfast served in the State Dining Room and optional dinners can be arranged, featuring seasonal ingredients with garden produce and warm hospitality. For those wishing to make their stay extra special, there’s the opportunity to meet the Castle’s custodians and hear first-hand about the restoration journey that brought Rose Castle back to life.
Guests can also choose to join one of the retreats hosted at Rose Castle throughout the year. These thoughtfully designed experiences range from outdoor and nature-focused weekends to gardening workshops, wellness retreats and immersive history-led stays that bring the Castle’s story and the history of the England Scottish Border to life. Rose Castle is also home to the Rose Castle Foundation, an international peace-building charity rooted in the Castle’s long heritage of hospitality and reconciliation. The Foundation offers its own programme of retreats centred on its mission of nurturing peace – creating space for reflection, learning, and connection in the quiet beauty of the Castle and its grounds. Whether you’re seeking rest, inspiration, or meaningful conversation, our retreats offer a unique opportunity to slow down and experience Rose Castle in a deeper way.
