This remarkably complete brick-built Tudor manor house sits on monastery remains recorded in the Domesday Book.
The H-shaped house has an enormous stone chimney breast. It was built by Robert Audley 1565 of lath and plaster but brick-encased 1645. Home to Sir Charles Caesar and son Julius, master of the rolls.
Many works of art on show, including portraits of Henry VIII. Charming gardens, fine views, large ponds, walled gardens.
Take a guided tour of the house and garden. The ground floor includes flagstone floors, beamed ceilings, very early fireplace, excellent collection of paintings, objets d’art, collection of tea caddies, while the upper floor includes a tour of a finely decorated bedroom.
