A strong and well-preserved keep or Pele tower with suitably rugged interiors; Lennoxlove, at its heart, was extended in the 17th-century into a more comfortable house.
This delightful castle now contains the Dukes of Hamilton collections of pictures, furniture and porcelain in addition to the death mask, famous letter casket, and other mementoes of Mary Queen of Scots.

House Tours
The Lennoxlove House is currently closed to the public and will reopen for fully guided house tours starting April 1, 2026. Tours will be available on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays from April 1, 2026 to October 29, 2026, excluding Easter Sunday. Tour times are at 12:00 PM, 1:00 PM, 2:00 PM, and 3:00 PM. Tickets must be booked and paid for in advance, at least 24 hours before the visit. The ticket price for adults is £12.50, while children under 16 can attend for free. Members of Historic Houses can access the house as part of their membership but must also pre-book.
Grounds Access
The grounds of Lennoxlove Estate are open to the public year-round for recreational use, except for the private gardens surrounding the house. Visitors are reminded that this is a working estate, and they should follow all estate signs and keep dogs on leads at all times. The estate supports the Land Reform Scotland Act (2003) and allows freedom to roam while ensuring safety and respect for wildlife.
Special Events
The estate occasionally hosts special events, such as music festivals and vintage car gatherings. Details of these events will be announced in the estate's news section.

Historic Houses members visit free but must book in advance via Lennoxlove’s website here. No ‘walk up’ bookings can be accommodated.
Tour numbers are extremely limited. If a member is unable to make a booked tour they should inform the castle as early as possible so the place can be offered to others.

Lennoxlove is just 20 miles from Edinburgh and a mile off the A1.
Do not rely on local signposting, which is particularly difficult to find and read.
From Edinburgh, leave the A1 at the second Haddington exit, Abbotsview Junction. At the roundabout take the B6369 towards Gifford. Cross over the traffic lights in Haddington and a hump back bridge as you leave the town. Approximately 600 metres after the bridge turn right into Lennoxlove Estate and follow the avenue of trees to the signed visitor parking area.
