The William Morris Society Museum is based in the coach house and lower rooms of Kelmscott House, Hammersmith, where William Morris and his family lived for the last 18 years of his life. The house is situated right on the Thames river in a beautiful area for a stroll or visit to the local Dove Pub for lunch after the museum.

While the main house is a private residence, the coach house, features highlights from the Society’s collection which include original textiles and wallpapers, as well as hand-drawn designs by William Morris himself. The coach house was also the site of meetings of the Hammersmith branch of the Socialist League, which Morris became involved with in his later years. Visitors can view memorabilia from this time, including membership cards designed by Walter Crane, and photos of the coach house as it was during this period.

The museum is also home to a garden, a library, a gift shop, and a printing room which features the Society’s vast collection of Kelmscott Press books, typefaces, and test prints, all beautifully designed by William Morris, and illustrated by his good friend and colleague, Edward Burne-Jones. The Society also owns one of three original Albion printing presses used by the Kelmscott Press, and is still in working order today.
