First given to Bishop Aelhun in 855AD, the Castle was the home of the Bishops of Worcester until 2007. Three of its bishops became saints, two were burned at the stake, and one became the Pope who refused Henry VIII his divorce. Opening Times
Hartlebury Castle is open from 1st February to 23rd December each year.
- Tuesday to Friday: 10am – 5pm
- Weekends & Bank Holidays: 11am – 5pm
- Mondays: Closed
Visitors are advised to check for partial closure dates before planning their visit.
Summer Activities & Events
During the summer season, Hartlebury Castle offers a range of activities and events for visitors of all ages.
The Battle Plan Mystery Trail and Civil War Summer Crafts run throughout the summer period from Tuesday 21st July to Thursday 27th August 2026, operating during regular opening hours. The Mystery Trail runs from 10:00am, while Civil War Summer Crafts begin at 10:30am.
In the Carriage Circle, outdoor games and space hoppers are available during spring and summer months, adding to the family-friendly atmosphere of the grounds.
Year-Round Facilities
The Grounds & Perimeter Walk and Adventure Playground are available during all general opening hours throughout the season. Please note that grounds-only tickets are not available on most event dates.
Historic House members visit free.
