Doughton Manor
Doughton, Tetbury, Gloucestershire, GL8 8TG
Doughton Manor is a Grade I listed, Elizabethan property. The early history of the manor is unclear however
the land was leased by John Seed the Elder (a Tetbury burgher) in 1567 and it is thought possible that the house was in existence by the late 16th century.
Having only been restored/developed a handful of times in the last 400 years it retains many original features including wood panelled rooms, historic fireplaces and original doors and windows.
Richard Talboys (one of the original Feoffees of Tetbury) completed major work on the manor in 1641 with next significant work not being undertaken until the 1930s. The then owner Col. Frank Mitchel employed Norman Jewson, a prominent Cotswold architect known for his craftmanship, to repair the house.
The manor house is currently undergoing another phase of sensitive repair and restoration combining traditional building materials and techniques with modern air source heat pump technologies, ensuring the house is robust, warm, weather tight and equipped to stand for the next 100 years whilst also retaining its history.
