Beaulieu has been home to the Montagu family since 1538, when Palace House was created from the Great Gatehouse of 13th-century Beaulieu Abbey.
The Abbey was founded in 1204 on land gifted by King John to the Cistercian monks. From the beautiful fan-vaulted ceilings of the Lower Drawing Room and Dining Hall, you can clearly see its monastic origins.
Today, Palace House is part of the Beaulieu attraction which sits at the head of the beautiful Beaulieu River in the heart of the New Forest.
