Summer Adventures Await at Drumlanrig Castle & Country Estate
This summer, Drumlanrig Castle & Country Estate is inviting visitors to make the most of the season with a packed programme of activities, experiences and places to stay, offering something for every age and interest.

From stepping inside one of Scotland’s most magnificent stately homes to exploring miles of scenic walking trails, enjoying outdoor adventures or simply unwinding in beautiful surroundings, Summer adventures await, promising memorable days out and relaxing escapes throughout the school holidays and beyond.
Step Inside the Castle
From Friday 10 July, Drumlanrig Castle opens its doors for the summer season, giving visitors the opportunity to discover one of Scotland’s finest historic homes.
Guided Castle Tours run Friday to Tuesday throughout July and Friday to Monday throughout August, taking guests on a fascinating journey through the Castle’s 17th-century origins and the enduring legacy of the Douglas family. Visitors will also experience an outstanding collection of fine art, antiques and historical treasures within the Castle’s beautifully preserved interiors.
Family Summer Trails
Running from Friday 10 July to Thursday 13 August, the popular Summer Wandering Trails encourage families to discover the Estate in a fun and interactive way. Visitors can purchase a £1 activity booklet before setting off to uncover fascinating facts about the Estate’s wildlife, history and natural surroundings. With a brand-new trail introduced each week, every visit offers something different to explore.
Discover the Gardens
The Estate’s spectacular gardens take centre stage this summer with a series of guided tours led by two passionate experts. Head Gardener Robbie will host exclusive tours on 28 June, 2 August, 30 August and 27 September at 2pm, sharing seasonal highlights, practical gardening advice and behind-the-scenes insight into the beautiful Gardens.
Meanwhile, Castle Guide and Volunteer Gardener Jill leads historical garden walks on 16 & 23 July, 13 & 27 August and 10 September at 1.30pm, revealing the Gardens’ rich history, breathtaking vistas and famous filming locations.
Stay a Little Longer
Visitors looking to extend their stay can choose from a collection of charming self-catering cottages and elegant apartments across the Estate.
Whether planning a romantic break, family holiday or gathering with friends, guests can enjoy comfortable accommodation surrounded by spectacular scenery, with walking trails and outdoor adventures right on the doorstep.
Outdoor Adventures for Every Pace
Summer at Drumlanrig offers endless opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors. Fishing enthusiasts can enjoy peaceful days on the Estate’s lochs and rivers, with ghillie services available by request. Picnic hampers and riverside BBQ catering can also be arranged for a truly memorable day beside the water.
Visitors can also hire e-bikes to explore woodland trails, scenic routes and hidden corners of the Estate, making it easy to discover even more of the landscape. Families can let little adventurers burn off energy at the popular Adventure Playground, located beside the Larchwood Cabin Café, while walkers can enjoy miles of trails ranging from gentle strolls to longer countryside routes rich in wildlife and stunning views. For those seeking something different, clay pigeon shooting offers an exciting outdoor activity suitable for beginners, families and groups, with expert instruction provided throughout.
Delicious Dining
After a day of exploring, visitors can relax in the newly renovated Castle Tearoom, open weekends and on Castle opening days. Serving homemade lunches, delicious cakes, traditional Sunday roasts and refreshments throughout the day, the Tearoom also offers outdoor terrace seating, perfect for soaking up summer views across the Estate. Visitors can now reserve a table through the Estate’s online booking system.
Galloway Country Fair Returns
One of the highlights of the summer calendar, Galloway Country Fair, returns on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 August. Set against the spectacular backdrop of Drumlanrig Castle, the event celebrates the very best of countryside life with thrilling displays, family entertainment, local food and drink, crafts and rural traditions, making it one of the region’s must-visit summer events.
Drumlanrig Offroad Motorsport Festival
The estate welcomes back to the Galloway Motorcycle Club for a member weekends of off-road motorsport on Friday 28 to Sunday 30 August. Expect classic scrambles, trails and grass track racing.
