We are delighted to have been chosen as the “third best castle in Scotland” by The Times newspaper.

Visitors can explore almost every room in the castle at their own pace, many of which are intentionally unfurnished so that the fabric and architecture of the building can be appreciated. Visitors regularly say how much they enjoy the freedom to roam all around the castle without supervision or areas roped off.

Our Walled Garden, which we are still restoring, was once famous throughout in Scotland and produced a world-famous botanist, Archibald Menzies, about whom we have a permanent exhibition.

Our small kirk (The Old Kirk of Weem) is a late-medieval kirk that houses the remains of past chiefs (the Menzies Mausoleum).

The castle itself is the clan centre for Clan Menzies and also houses an exhibition for Clan Gregor. We also have displays on the interesting history of the castle and past Chiefs of Clan Menzies.

One of our most famous guests at the castle was Prince Duleep Singh, the last Sikh Maharajah of the Punjab, and we have a display about him which we are intending to develop into a full permanent exhibition soon.

Children very much enjoy visiting the castle and we have a permanent Lego hunt for then, with hidden Lego characters for them to find. Adults tend to enjoy this too!

We have a small gift shop and a tea room. We have toilets on the ground floor but the upper floors are only accessible by spiral staircase.
