There is something about the charm of Sledmere which has captivated visitors for over 200 years. Whether you just want a relaxing day looking around the gardens and enjoying lunch in the Coach House Café or want to admire fine examples of art and architecture in the House, there is something for everyone at Sledmere.

Sledmere House is a stunning Grade I listed country house, which is still lived in and has been cherished by the Sykes family for over 250 years. Sledmere is a Georgian House – and it is also an Edwardian House. Designed by Samuel Wyatt and Sir Christopher Sykes (2nd Baronet) and nurtured by successive generations, this very special place brings new devotees every year.

Sir Christopher Sykes, (2nd Baronet) rebuilt and redecorated the house in the 1790s, but in 1911 it was almost completely destroyed by fire. Fortunately, most of the contents were rescued and they can still be seen on view today. It is worth a visit just to see the splendour of Joseph Rose’s plasterwork and the fine examples of furniture by Chippendale, Hepplewhite and Sheraton.

Surrounding Sledmere House are the Parkland, Deer Park and Gardens – including the beautiful 18th century Walled Garden. The gardens at Sledmere are gaining increasing prominence for their dynamic and innovative development programme. The Walled Garden is today designed to maintain its formal and traditional style in keeping with its history, but giving it a contemporary twist. You can explore and discover different garden rooms – all with a different emphasis on form, colour and overall impact on the eye.

Alongside the House and Gardens, we have a fantastic adventure play area, suitable for all ages, where children and families can enjoy our range of play equipment including a zip wire, climbing frames and basket swing.

The Coach House Café offers the best of Yorkshire’s finest fresh and locally sourced food and drink. The menu includes a delicious range of hot and cold meals, along with some all-time favourites such as the Coach House breakfast and homemade Afternoon Teas. There is always something deliciously tempting on the menu. We also have function rooms for parties and meetings which overlook the historic Stable Block – available to hire with flexible menu options.

The Farm Shop is always fully stocked with the highest quality, local sourced, seasonal produce. You can pick up your fresh, weekly groceries, a tasty takeaway sandwich and coffee, or call in for some special homemade baking from the deli counter. There is a fantastic range of local gin, beer and wine, as well as appetising sweet and savoury treats – the perfect place to pick up a gift for loved ones.

The Woodyard is the ideal destination for all your home, gift and garden needs, offering a wide range of inspiring and unique products. In Summer, we extend further to a Garden Barn for everything you require for the garden, outdoor living and wildlife. In Winter, the beautiful Christmas Shop is full to brimming with so many beautiful and carefully selected gifts, trees, decorations and lights. All year round, there’s always something different to catch your eye.

We host a vibrant programme of seasonal events – there is always something exciting to take part in, learn about and enjoy at Sledmere, including Lambing, Deer Safari, Halloween, Sledmere’s Magical Santa Experience, and many more!

If you’d like to make your visit into a holiday, we have East Lodge Holiday Cottage – located in the Grounds, and once a gate house, it is now lovingly restored to offer a peaceful and tranquil break away.

We offer custom-made Wedding packages to meet your own special requirements here at Sledmere. What better setting could you wish for than our beautiful Georgian country home, rustic Sykes barn or the marquee lawn overlooking the Parkland?
