Friars Court
Friars Court, Clanfield, Oxfordshire, OX18 2SU
There is a wheelchair access lavatory. The gardens are level with a path leading around a majority of the grounds, although areas like the musuem are accessed over gravel.
The gardens of Friars Court are open by arrangement for group tours and cream teas from May to September.
Guests will enjoy a personally guided tour of the gardens led by the owner of the estate, Charles Willmer. The relaxed walking tour takes visitors through the three-acre, part-moated gardens, following a level path along the banks of the 500-year-old moat. Crossing small bridges along the way, the route explores a series of formal and informal garden areas, including the Moat Ponds, willow tunnel, Rose Garden, yew arch, and the recently created Labyrinth Garden. During the tour, Charles shares anecdotes about the history of his home and the development of the gardens.
After the tour, guests are invited to relax and enjoy a traditional homemade cream tea served in the sunlit Garden Room.
A visit also includes the opportunity to view the private museum, where Roman and medieval artefacts discovered on the surrounding farmland are displayed alongside historical family photographs.
Please note: Friars Court is a private residence and visits need to be arranged in advance. The house itself is not open to visitors.
Guided tour and cream tea: £15 per person (minimum 12 visitors). A visit normally lasts around 2½ hours, including the tour and tea.
