Cottesbrooke Hall and Gardens, situated in Northamptonshire, boasts award-winning gardens, and the internationally renowned Woolavington Collection of sporting art, along with fine English and Continental furniture and porcelain. It remains the home of the Macdonald-Buchanan family.
Cottesbrooke was built between 1702 – 1712. It is built of rose-coloured brick and the ornamentation, including giant Corinthian pilasters, is of Ketton stone. It sits in mature parkland with lakes, vistas, bridges and ha-has.
The gardens, former winners of the coveted Christies and Historic Houses Association “Garden of the Year Award”, are a constant source of innovation with a number of distinguished designers having been involved in it development: Sire Geoffrey Jellicoe, Dame Sylvia Crowe, and Arne Maynard. The more formal garden surrounding the hall are laid out as a series of individually planted ‘rooms’, whereas the Wild Garden flanks a meandering stream where acers, spring bulbs and gunneras create a romantic and tranquil air. There are pergolas, statues, rose borders, double herbaceous borders, pools and, on the south front, the formal parterre.

It is the home of the Macdonald-Buchanan family and was built between 1702 and 1712 in the Queen Anne style.
Opening Times:
- 2025 Season: Open from 1st May to 25th September 2025.
- May & June: Open on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM.
- July, August & September: Open on Thursdays only from 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM.
- Bank Holiday Mondays: Open from 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM.
Admission Prices:
- House & Gardens: Adults £17.00, Children (14–17 years) £8.00, under 14s free.
- Gardens Only: Adults £14.00, Children (14–17 years) £5.00, under 14s free.
- 10% discount available for tickets booked online in advance.
Special Notes:
- Pre-booking is essential for Hall tours, which are guided and last approximately 45 minutes. The last tour departs at 4:15 PM.
- Historic Houses and RHS members can access the Hall and Gardens for free with proof of membership, except during special events.
- Accessibility is limited in certain areas; wheelchair access is available in the Gardens and Tearoom.
- Dogs are not allowed except for assistance dogs.
- Photography is allowed in the Gardens for private use only.
- Refreshments are available in the Old Laundry Tearoom from 2:30 PM to 5:00 PM on open days.
- Picnics are not allowed in the Gardens but are permitted in a designated area by the lake near the car park.
Special Event:
- The Gardens will be open for the National Garden Scheme (NGS) on Sunday, 27th April 2025, from 2:00 PM.
