Home to Lord and Lady Edward Manners, Haddon Hall is one of the country’s most elegant stately homes.
Haddon invites visitors to immerse themselves in centuries of history, art and craftsmanship, and stroll around the Hall’s magnificent cascading gardens, enjoying uninterrupted views of the Peak District.
Experience the Hall’s grandeur, marvel at the rare 15th-century frescoes in the Chapel and savour the plethora of roses which shroud the limestone walls in a sonnet of pale pinks and whites.
Haddon Hall also holds a number of events and exhibitions throughout the year, together with regular walks in the ecologically rich parkland. With a restaurant and artisan pop-up shop within the grounds, the Hall is the perfect location for a full day out.
It is the choice location for many film-makers, playing host to three versions of “Jane Eyre”, became Prince Humperdinck’s Castle in cult movie the Princess Bride and was also used in “Elizabeth”, “Pride & Prejudice” and “The Other Boleyn Girl”.

Haddon Hall Opening Times 2026
Main Season
Saturday 28th March – Sunday 18th October 2026
The Hall and Gardens are open from 10:30 am to 4:00 pm daily. Last admission is at 3:00 pm. The Ticket Office opens at 10:00 am and closes at 3:00 pm.
Please note: The Hall and Gardens close early on Tuesday 7th July 2026, closing at 3:00 pm with last admission at 2:00 pm.
Autumn Closure and Special Events
The Hall and Gardens are closed Monday 19th – Wednesday 21st October 2026. Haddon Hall reopens from 22nd October 2026 for special events. Please check the events page for specific dates and times.
Christmas Season
Haddon Hall opens for daytime visits 18th – 23rd December 2026. Christmas Candlelit Tours are also available on selected evenings during this period. Please check the events page for specific times.
Facilities
The car park is open during the main season from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm and during the Christmas events period. The Elizabethan Walled Gardens are accessible during all opening hours.
Guided Tours for Individual Visitors
- Free Guided 'Highlights of the Hall' Tours: Available every Monday during the Spring/Summer season, running at regular intervals throughout the day. Tours last approximately half an hour.
- Free Guided Tours for Children: Available on Tuesdays during the six weeks summer school holidays, running at regular intervals throughout the day.
- Garden and Specialist Tours / Parkland Walks: Available throughout the year. Please refer to the events page for specific dates and times.
- Haddon's Medieval Park – Expert Walks and Talks: Available throughout the year. Please refer to the events page for specific dates and times.
- The 9th Duke's Restoration: A Presentation and Tour by Haddon's Archivist: 15th July 2026. Please check the events page for time details.
Group Visits
Group visits are available April to October 2026, with tours arranged from 9:30 am to suit your group's arrival time. The following options are available:

During the closed season, group visits may be possible, though not all tours can be accommodated. Additional charges apply for tours on normal closed or special season days in January, February, March, October and November.
Historic Houses members visit for free during regular opening season. No pre-booking required.

We welcome group visits at Haddon Hall.
Wander through the Hall and gardens or arrange a guided tour for a fascinating insight into the history of this beautiful house. Pre-booked informal groups are admitted free of charge.
If you have a particular interest in visiting for a private guided group walk in our medieval parkland, for a private guided tour of the House and Garden, or in fly fishing on the River Wye or the River Derwent it may be possible to arrange this.

Haddon Hall has launched an inspirational new Learning Programme with cross-curricular sessions for EYFS and KS 1-4 exploring themes of food & drink, leisure, art, music, health, work and science. KS1-2 living history sessions are hands-on with children dressing up in period costume and experiencing life as a Tudor in our original 16th century kitchens, Medieval Chapel, Great Hall, Elizabethan Long Gallery and gardens. Sessions support the KS1-2 National Curriculum across History, Science, Art, English & Maths and KS3-4 across RE and History. Please click here for KS1-4 options.

A-LEVEL
Early Modern History
Use the Hall as a primary source in historic investigation, such as the Chapel for study of pre and post Reformation life. Explore the evolution of the Hall from the medieval to the Tudor period and discover that the Vernons and Manners were important in national life and knew significant people such as Thomas Cromwell and Mary, Queen of Scots. Search for medieval and Elizabethan graffiti and take part in a short “play” based on historical evidence.
Allow approximately 2 hours for the session.

The nearest train station is Matlock but there are also stations at Buxton and Chesterfield.
Buses regularly stop at Haddon Hall; Trans Peak, Sixes, 172 and 171.
