Hedingham Castle to host a traditional Christmas ‘Keep Festive’ Illuminations Trail

News from our houses Things to see and do

The in-house Hedingham Castle team have collaborated with independent artists to curate an original concept light trail that fuses immersive theatre, festive illuminations and enchanting soundscapes to animate the historical landscape in the story of the ‘The Knight Before Christmas’. From the 6th – 20th December, this Essex Castle will transport audiences to the mischief of Norman Christmas traditions through the eyes of Baubry, Hedingham’s Blue Boar Cub.

Wandering beneath the beautiful illuminated trees, one can marvel at glowing reflections across the lake, and explore the breathtaking 12th-century Norman Keep under the Twilight stars. This authentic historical landscape will come alive with theatrical performances that go far beyond a standard light trail, all with mulled wine in hand.

“We wanted to create an experience that would be completely authentic to the castle’s extraordinary history and yet make it a wonderful evening to share with friends. The ancient landscape at night is truly magical.” – Demetra Lindsay, Hedingham Castle’s Chatelaine

A remarkable example of Norman architecture, Hedingham Castle’s ancient ramparts and medieval parkland have evolved into beautiful landscaped gardens. The incredible history extends almost a millennium.

The ‘Keep’ festivities continue with the ‘Keep’ Christmastide Market on the closing weekend (18th -20th December), the perfect opportunity for buying last minute gifts and delicious food. And to top it off, the silk lined dining room of the mansion will be transformed into with the dwelling of St Nicholas, the most traditional Father Christmas visit children will ever see.
