News from our houses Things to see and do

Internationally acclaimed theatre company British Touring Shakespeare are delighted to bring an open-air performance of William Shakespeare’s beloved comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream to the stunning grounds of Penshurst Place in Kent on Friday 4th July 2025 at 7:00 PM, as part of their 2025 UK tour.

West End star Lucyelle Cliffe, who is serving as Associate Director on this production, said: “Penshurst Place is one of the most atmospheric and picturesque venues we visit. It’s a joy to return here with a production that so beautifully celebrates nature, enchantment, and love. A Midsummer Night’s Dream was made to be experienced under the open sky. I have been fortunate to perform all over the world, and returning to my home county with such a wonderful production is so special.”

Poet and actor SP Howarth, who plays Puck and is originally from Kent, said: “Bringing this magical story to life in the gardens of Penshurst Place is a dream for any actor. The setting is so evocative — it’s the perfect backdrop for mischief, fairies, and theatrical mayhem!”

Ben Thomas, General Manager of Penshurst Place, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to welcome British Touring Shakespeare back to Penshurst Place for the fifth consecutive year. Their open-air performances have become a much-loved fixture in our summer calendar, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream is the perfect choice for our beautiful gardens. The combination of Shakespeare’s timeless comedy and the historic beauty of Penshurst Place creates a truly magical evening for our visitors.”

British Touring Shakespeare, in partnership with Facsimile Productions, has delighted audiences for over 25 years with vibrant, accessible productions of Shakespeare classics. In 2020, the company was the first to return to live open-air theatre during the recovery from the pandemic, and has since continued to champion outdoor performance with acclaimed tours of Two Gentlemen of Verona, Much Ado About Nothing, and Twelfth Night, among others, being enjoyed by thousands of theatregoers over the years.
