As part of the Great British Summer Savings 2026, Braemar Castle has chosen to focus cost savings on family admission prices, to enable more parents and children to uncover the stories and secrets of the castle’s 400-year history. Throughout the summer, families can enjoy a range of family-friendly activities including a teddy treasure hunt, family quiz and a programme of special micro events as part of the Summer of Discovery.

Built in 1628 by the Earl of Mar, Braemar Castle is Scotland’s first community run castle. It has evolved from a hunting lodge to a Redcoat military garrison after the Jacobite risings, surviving Clan feuds and even being set alight. During the 19th and 20th centuries Braemar Castle became a high society retreat and has been inhabited by some fascinating and colourful characters, many of whom have left their mark in the fabric of the building and its grounds.

Suzanna Atkinson, manager of Braemar Castle, said: “Braemar Castle is run by the community, for the community, and when we saw the opportunity to take part in the Great British Summer Savings initiative, we wanted to make sure local people and visitors could benefit as much as possible.

“By reducing our family ticket to £25, we’ve gone beyond the standard VAT saving to make a visit to the castle even more accessible. We hope this encourages more families to discover our history, explore the castle together and enjoy a memorable day out in the heart of Royal Deeside.”

Families can step back in time with a guided tour led by the castle’s knowledgeable volunteer team. Visitors can explore ten fully furnished, interactive displays and exhibitions that bring the castle’s colourful past to life, before enjoying a picnic in the picturesque castle grounds.
