Boughton House Presents “Once Upon a Christmas” – A Magical Festive Season for All the Family
Step into a world of festive wonder this winter as Boughton House launches “Once Upon a Christmas”, a series of enchanting seasonal experiences running from Sunday 23rd November to Sunday 14th December 2025.

From sparkling Christmas trees and creative workshops to festive family moments with Santa himself, Boughton offers something special for everyone this Christmas.
No Christmas at Boughton would be complete without a visit to Santa’s Grotto. Lovingly created within the historic stable block, this enchanting space invites children to step into Santa’s world, share their wish lists, and enjoy a magical chat and photo opportunity before receiving a special present from the man himself. Santa’s Grotto is open Sunday 23 & 30 November and Friday 5 & 12 December and Sunday 14 December
For families, Boughton offers a truly heartwarming experience with Kids’ Afternoon Tea with Santa on Saturday 29 November & Saturday 6 December. Set within the beautifully decorated Tearoom, children can enjoy a delicious festive tea by Kettering’s own Vice Puddings, with sandwiches, scones, and Christmas biscuits, while adults are treated to a luxury spread of savoury and sweet delights. Little ones will love colouring, crafts, and storytime with Santa himself, who will be joined by the Singing Santa for live music and laughter – with a special gift for every child to take home.
Adding to the magic, Boughton’s Tapestry Suite will host a series of creative Christmas workshops on 28 & 29 November and 12 & 13 December, where guests can craft their own festive wreaths or table centrepieces under the expert guidance of Ann from Bloom in Scents floristry. These relaxed and sociable sessions include light refreshments, all materials, and plenty of seasonal cheer – the perfect way to embrace the spirit of the season while learning a new skill.
Then comes the return of Boughton’s Christmas Trees, open daily from 29th November. Visitors can choose their perfect Nordmann Fir, the nation’s favourite Christmas tree, known for its soft green needles and superb needle-holding. Trees range from 4ft to 8ft (from £40), with smaller pot-grown trees also available. A limited number of elegant Fraser Firs provide a slender alternative with a refreshing citrus scent. Once your tree is chosen and wrapped, guests are invited to wander through Boughton’s Gift Shop, filled with festive inspiration. Shoppers will discover a wonderful selection of Christmas decorations, tree stands, and locally made wreaths in both traditional and modern styles, alongside thoughtful gifts ranging from locally produced gins and homeware to the much-loved Restoration Yard collection – a Buccleuch brand offering distinctive pieces inspired by the Buccleuch Collection with a touch of Boughton charm.
Visitors can also take a peaceful winter stroll through the walled garden, a short uphill walk from the Stableyard, and can see from afar the progress of the ambitious roof repairs as they continue on the main House. As they explore, little ones can look out for twelve naughty elves located around the site and gardens.
From the scent of pine needles to the sparkle of fairy lights, Once Upon a Christmas at Boughton House captures the warmth, creativity, and wonder of the festive season. Whether you’re searching for the perfect tree, a special gift, or a magical family outing, Boughton promises an unforgettable Christmas experience for all ages.
