Autumn Magic at Mapperton with a spell-binding Halloween Trail

News from our houses

Families are invited to discover a world of autumn enchantment at Mapperton Gardens this October.

Although Mapperton House will close to visitors at the end of September, Mapperton Gardens and Mapperton Wildlands remain open Sundays to Thursdays throughout October. With acres of outside space to explore, Mapperton offers the chance to enjoy walks and the rich autumn colour change, wildlife encounters and one of the county’s most picturesque landscapes.

Also, with a brand-new Magic at Mapperton Halloween Trail running from Sunday 26 to Friday 31 October, half-term week will be full of hocus pocus! Children can embark on a mapped adventure through Mapperton’s award-winning gardens near Beaminster, guided by a special activity booklet. Along the way, they’ll uncover decorative Halloween scenes, from witchy washing lines and golden pumpkins to giant spiderwebs and spooky coffins, each hiding a letter to collect and unscramble into a spooky word.

The journey ends at the Summerhouse, transformed into a magical Potion Room brimming with broomsticks, potion bottles, cobwebs and candlelight. Here, children can mix their own mini potion to take home, using dried ingredients and a little imagination.

Young explorers should also keep a watchful eye out for Pippa the Cat, Mapperton’s very own witch’s companion. Those who spot her secret hiding place will be treated to a sweet reward.
The Halloween Trail costs £5 per child which includes garden entry, booklet, the trail, and potion-making. One adult gets free entry to the gardens for each child Halloween ticket.
Mapperton Gardens will be open from 11am to 3pm and The Coach House Café will be serving delicious cakes, snacks and drinks.
