We apologise that we are currently unable to update our answer phone message on 01973 466664. Please disregard what you hear, as not all of the information is currently accurate. The statement below is updated daily and reflects the current situation at Lydiard. Please come to this page of our website to see the most up to date information about the facilities at Lydiard.

We apologise that Lydiard House, the Walled Garden and the Hotel and Conference Centre remain closed until further notice, however the grounds of Lydiard Park are open for the public to enjoy, whilst following current Government guidance on social distancing and gatherings. You do not need to book to visit the grounds of Lydiard Park. Access to the grounds is free, but pay and display parking charges apply in our car parks. Lydiard’s daily parking costs are £2.10 for up to 2 hours and £4.40 all day. Please use the PayByPhone mobile ticketing option to pay for parking where possible (cash payments can still be made if necessary)..

We are offering a basic take away service only (i.e. snacks, ice creams and drinks) at the Forest Café between 10am and 5pm, and alongside the Coach House Tea rooms between 11am and 5pm. The  ice cream parlour is open between 12 noon and 5pm. The service is 7 days a week, but we reserve the right to close some of the outlets if the weather is very wet or there are high winds. In these circumstances, only the takeaway window at the Forest Café will be open. Card payments only will be accepted at our takeaway outlets.

The public toilets are also open between 9am and 4pm, other than during enhanced cleaning, which takes place twice a day. Please note that the accessible toilet available is close by the Forest Café. All toilets are inspected hourly.

At the moment, there is not a date for the reopening of the play park. There was a considerable delay due to the pandemic in our being able to arrange the annual inspection of the playground facilities, which is part of our Health and Safety management process. This inspection has only just taken place and work has been identified that needs to take place in order to keep our youngest visitors safe. At the moment, we are waiting for remedial work to be carried out.

We are currently not taking any bookings for events, including the hire of BBQs or St John Hollow, and it is highly unlikely that we will be offering this facility during the 2020 BBQ season. We apologise that portable and/or disposable BBQs (including gas BBQs) and fires are not allowed anywhere in the grounds of Lydiard Park, however, picnic tables are still distributed throughout the Park and are available for our visitors to use. We are a community park, and are just asking our users to follow Covid related signage within the Park and to take note of current government guidance for gatherings and social distancing when visiting us e.g. for a picnic.

We also allow gazebos that are no more than 2 metres wide to be erected for picnics. We ask visitors not to pitch gazebos on the front lawn in front of Lydiard House, but to use the Events Field, which is the large grass area closest to the Visitor Centre. You can also pitch a gazebo on the BBQ field, but this tends to get much busier, if you are thinking of social distancing.

Lydiard Park has two main entrances, Hay Lane and Hook Street.  At the moment, we are locking our Hook Street entrance at 5.30pm, rather than at dusk, which is our usual practice. If you are planning to stay beyond 5.30pm, we recommend using our Hay Lane entrance. Lydiard Park’s postcode for Sat Nav directions is SN5 3PA, but to be directed to our Hay Lane entrance, you will need to add ‘Hay Lane’ to your Sat Nav.

We apologise that it is not possible to reserve a car parking space at Lydiard. Whilst we can never predict what will happen with our car parks, it is true to say that they tend to become very busy when the weather is hot during school holidays and at weekends between 12 noon and 4pm. However, we seldom have situations where the car parks are full, and we have overflow parking close by our Hay Lane entrance. (see map at https://www.swindon.gov.uk/lydiardhouse/info/11/plan-visit/4/plan-visit-1/3). Whilst we cannot guarantee a car parking space, the wait is usually short where waiting is required. This is because we have a lot of dog walkers using the park who tend to have annual parking permits, and they leave when they have walked the dog.

Where future decisions are taken, and there are any changes to what is being offered at Lydiard, these will be communicated on this page of our website and on our Facebook page, Lydiard Park.
