Blenheim announces its Official Charity of the Year 2020

Blenheim has announced it has adopted Oxfordshire-based SeeSaw as its official charity of the year for 2020.

Established in 2000, the charity provides grief support for bereaved children, young people and their families. 

Since its launch it has supported over 6,000 individuals and their families to reduce the emotional, psychological and mental health consequences of bereavement.

The charity has a team of five clinically trained staff and 13 highly skilled volunteer support workers who provide one-to-one sessions with children and young people in their own home and out of school time.

“Each year we invite all our staff to decide on a locally-based charity for us to support,” said Stephanie Duncan, Blenheim’s Marketing and Communications Director.

“SeeSaw provides an incredibly important resource for young people facing the worst possible news and offers them help and support to cope with and understand their grief. We are delighted to be able to help raise awareness and funds for such a hugely worthwhile charity based here in Oxfordshire,” she added.

As part of its support, Blenheim will be undertaking a series of fundraising and awareness building activities and events throughout the year.

As a registered charity, SeeSaw relies on its own fundraising for over 85% of its grief support costs. The cost of running SeeSaw’s service for 2019-20 lies in the region of £400,000 for which it depends on widespread support from individuals, local communities, businesses and trusts.

In 2019 Blenheim supported The Archway Foundation, a loneliness charity offering support, friendship and a listening ear.

They raised funds through social staff events, a sponsored walk across the Blenheim Estate, and staff took part in a 24hour staff cycle event effectively cycling their way across the Atlantic. Staff also supported the charity by offering their time and expertise from raising awareness with public speaking to offering marketing and communication support.

In 2018 Blenheim raised a total of £6,150 for Bridewell Gardens, a mental health recovery service which provides social and therapeutic horticulture in a working walled garden for adults living in Oxfordshire and previously also handed over a cheque for £14,500 to Maggie's Oxford in 2017.

A study by Oxford Brookes Business School showed Blenheim donated and raised money to a total of £3.5 million to local projects and charities between April 2018 - March 2019.
