Muncaster Castle raises £1,427.50 for the NSPCC
Muncaster Castle and the Pennington Hotel in Cumbria, raised an incredible £1,427.50 for the NSPCC through offering Lockdown VE Day Afternoon Teas.
Peter Frost-Pennington, the Directorof Muncaster Castle & Chairman of Pennington Hotels, said:
"It was the idea of Helen, our Head Chef in the Pennington Hotel. She volunteered to bake the cakes etc and a couple of other staff volunteered to help too. Some of our local suppliers (McClures and Caterite) donated some ingredients. The Teas were packed beautifully and either collected very efficiently by locals on a one way queue system or delivered by volunteers. Social distancing regulations were maintained at all times. We sold over 140 (we thought we would only sell 30 or so) & on Monday were able to send £1427.50 to the NSPCC. They were very pleased.
By all accounts everyone thoroughly enjoyed their teas in their gardens on the street sitting outside their houses. We sat outside the castle in the sun & certainly enjoyed ours...got quite a bit fatter as a result."
