Overview

A pretty Georgian building, formally a stable and coach house which, 25 years ago, was fully converted to form an elegant and delightful house.

At the same time the owners have created a remarkable 12-acre garden which includes extensive herbaceous borders, a rose garden, water garden, a long double crinkle yew hedge, formal courtyard, clock tower and dovecote. Beyond the garden is a small lake with ornamental woodland.

Ousden is just off the B1063 between Newmarket and Wickhambrook. From Newmarket, go to the Clock Tower at the end of the High Street and take the B1063 towards Clare. Follow this road through Cheveley and Ashley and after a further two or three miles of open country you will come to a crossroads marked by a pair of cottages and a large beech tree. Leave the B1063 here and go straight across, taking the road signposted Ousden. From Wickhambrook, this turning is on the right, two miles beyond Lidgate.

To find Ousden House, go past the village sign and a second sign saying 'bends'. Immediately round the first bend the entrance is on your right (green wooden field gates). If you miss this entrance, turn right at the next opportunity, towards the church and come in by the back gates, which are immediately on your right. Tel 01638 500040

Access may be difficult for very large coaches.
