A word from the owner
In 1899, Sir Jack's great grandfather bought Dundas, which has remained in the Stewart-Clark family ever since.
From the 12th century onwards the Dundas Clan acquired large areas of land on the south side of the Forth of Firth. Members of the Dundas family have been famous throughout Scottish history. Hugh Dundas served under William Wallace in the defence of his country. His son, George, fought alongside Robert the Bruce but was slain at the subsequent battle of Dupplin whilst Sir William Dundas was killed at the battle of Flodden.
The Auld Keep was built in the 15th century. In 1818 James Dundas built the 'modern' Castle, designed by William Burn, one of Scotland's greatest architects, famous for also building churches; his influcence can be seen in the main hall, passageway and staircase.
During World War II, for 5 years the RAF used Dundas as headquarters for the Balloon Barrage campaign protecting the bridges from the Germans.
A walking map can be provided to guests, outlining the walking routes on the Dundas Estate.
Whether you’ve had a morning of pampering, hair teasing or even golf we look forward to welcoming you to continue your wedding preparations.
Our team will be on hand to ensure that your final preparations go smoothly, and most importantly, enjoyably before you make your way to your ceremony location.
Your ceremony will be completely personal to you and your guests, there will be no Dundas staff, no interruptions, just you and your closest family and friends sharing this special time. You have many locations to choose from whether you’d prefer indoors or out, fairytale or classic, intimate or grand.
Now that you are officially married, we will welcome you both to your drinks reception to much applause from your guests. And this is where the fun really starts! Weather permitting, your party can spill out onto the lawns to enjoy their drinks reception, or for the colder months, the open log fires and cosy furniture will envelope your guests in a feeling of warmth and luxury.
If you’ve chosen to offer your guests canapés during the drinks reception, then they have already had a taste of the delights yet to come… the ‘wedding breakfast’ is our chefs’ time to shine! Each year our head chef creates exciting menus that will delight any of our guests. Should you be having a Jewish or Asian wedding we can offer Kosher-style or Halal menus.
For weddings of 75 guests and under, the main hall within the house will become your dance floor and for larger numbers the Pavilion will house the continued celebrations. The fairylight ceiling and coloured LED lighting provide lighting concepts to match your theme and create the perfect atmosphere for dancing the night away.
Our whole wedding weekend was magical, from the moment we arrived on the Friday afternoon all the way through to waking up to a winter wonderland outside on the Sunday morning. The Castle was such a spectacular venue for our special day and we had SO many comments about how wonderful both the Castle and the whole Dundas team were.
The Auld Keep
Making your way up the fairytale staircase within the medieval tower of the Auld Keep takes you to the magnificent Great Hall which, with its vaulted ceiling and original stonework, creates the most romantic setting you can imagine.
For over 75 guests the Pavilion will house the celebrations following the ceremony. The fairylight ceiling and coloured LED lighting provide lighting concepts to match your theme and create the perfect atmosphere for dancing the night away.
The Croquet Room
For a more classic location you can marry under the chandelier of the Croquet Room within the main house. This elegant Georgian room has an open fire and floor to ceiling windows that offer spectacular views across the estate. If you've chosen to offer your guests dinner the ‘wedding breakfast’ is our chefs’ time to shine!
The Auld Keep Roof
We want you to fall in love with the Castle. Our team will be on hand to ensure that your final preparations go smoothly, and most importantly, enjoyably before you make your way to your ceremony location.
The Courtyard is suitable for over 100 guests and makes a spectacular backdrop for your ceremony. With a choice of spectacular outdoor and indoor alternatives, should the weather be unfavourable, there is no reason that you can’t say ‘I do’ in a unique and dramatic setting.
When you host your event at Dundas, it is not only the beautiful Castle that becomes yours; the 500-acre estate does too – along with an assortment of relaxing or energising activities to make your stay extra special. There are also a variety of rooms throughout the Castle that can be used for dining or meeting spaces. The Croquet Room can hold up to 60 guests, the Beehive boardroom can hold 28 guests and the Pavilion has a maximum capacity of 200 guests. The organisation by the staff at Dundas was exemplary and our attendees thoroughly enjoyed themselves with many saying it was the best event we had ever held. The Castle and grounds are absolutely beautiful. I can’t recommend Dundas highly enough – nothing was too much trouble for the staff and they went out of their way to make our event run as smoothly as possible.”
On a personal note, I would like to thank everyone at the castle for making the event such a success. Everyone I spoke to was so helpful and I know that all the attendees thoroughly enjoyed themselves. I was lucky enough to stay in the castle and really appreciated the beautiful room (I would like to move in!).
