Bowhill House has been the principal home of the Scotts of Buccleuch for over two centuries. The House’s history gives it many great tales.

It also houses one of the world’s greatest private art collections including masterpieces by Canaletto, Raeburn, Reynolds and Gainsborough.

You’ll find stunning French furniture, Mortlake Tapestries, antique porcelain and portrait miniatures. A new exhibition, Love and Respect in the Victorian Age, opened in 2017 and features many new items on display from the renowned Collection.

Outside the House you’ll find beautiful walks, gardens and an adventure playground for the little ones. The tearoom serves a tasty selection of cakes, coffees and light lunches to treat yourself to.

Fun Facts
The 5th Duchess of Buccleuch was recently portrayed by Diana Rigg in the television series Victoria, but not so accurately... Visitors can find out about the real Duchess and her links with Queen Victoria at our new exhibition.
